Faure Island Sanctuary
Faure Island Sanctuary is a 5,816 ha pastoral lease, surrounded by the Shark Bay Marine Park, and located in Disappointment Reach to the east of Peron Peninsula in Shark Bay, Western Australia. The island is within the Shire of Shark Bay, about 15 km east of Monkey Mia and about 7 km north of Petite Point. Two major regional towns, Geraldton to the south and Carnarvon to the north, are about 4 hours drive from Monkey Mia.
Transport to the island is by boat from Monkey Mia, however access to the island is extremely difficult due to the shallow waters and complicated tidal flows that are characteristic of Shark Bay. Supplies, equipment, and staff are transported to and from the island with the support of local community members.
