Karakamia forest

Our 2 hour guided spotlight walks are conducted at dusk Friday and Saturday nights, and bookings are essential. The start time varies throughout the year depending on sunset (from approximately 5:00 PM mid-winter to 7:00 PM mid-summer).
Click here to check start times for your walk.

The 3 km walk follows rocky bush-tracks and takes about two hours to complete as there are a number of stops along the way to talk about the habitats and look at the animals. Some hills are encountered along the route and the ground can be slippery due to pea gravel. Participants need to be of moderate fitness and stable on their feet. A shorter walk can be booked for less mobile groups, click here to make an enquiry.

There is still some light for the first half of the walk, while the second half is completed in the dark. Bright spotlights are carried by the guides to point out animals but feel free to bring a small torch of your own to light the path. The walk is followed by a hot drink and a quick chat.

A maximum of 20 people can participate. Groups of 40 people can be accommodated if you make a special booking. On normal walks, we don't take children aged under seven years or people with very poor mobility. However, if you have a group larger than 15 we can run a special tour to acoomodate people with special needs.

Items you may wish to bring include: sturdy footwear and clothing, binoculars, camera and insect repellent.  A small torch, although not essential, can be useful for finding your footing along the tracks at night.  All spotlights required are supplied.
