Paruna Sanctuary
Paruna sanctuary covers almost 2,000 ha in the Avon Valley, and is part of the Avon-Wheatbelt Bioregion. It is located immediately upstream of Walyunga National Park on the northern outskirts of the Perth metropolitan region and extends 14 km northeast to the Avon Valley National Park, predominantly following the southern banks of the Avon River. The Avon River is one of the major rivers of southwest Western Australia, and forms the Swan River at the junction of Wooroloo Brook, flowing through Perth to the Fremantle harbour.
The sanctuary is within the Shire of Swan and is located approximately 50 km north east of Perth. Access is through Midland, then via Toodyay and O’Brien Roads. The drive from Perth takes about one hour, depending upon traffic flow.
