Paruna sanctuary enjoys the moderate Mediterranean climate of Perth, with five to six dry summer months between October and March. The Perth area has a west-east rainfall gradient, increasing with the rise in altitude from the coast to the top of the Darling Scarp to a maximum of 1,000 mm per year, then declining further inland. There is also a south-north rainfall gradient along the Darling Scarp with rainfall declining to the north. Paruna sanctuary is located north of the maximum rainfall zone and experiences an average rainfall of about 700 mm.

Temperatures during the summer period rise to an average maximum of 30°C and minimum of 19°C. During the wet winter period the maximum decreases to 17°C and the minimum down to 9°C.
