What did you do before AWC?
After my PhD …bunch of jobs to pay the bills including remote living and outdoors/environmental education, and research for natural history documentary companies.
Science education intern and helping with fauna survey at AWC’s Yookamurra sanctuary.
Conservation Ecology Centre in VIC, helping with fauna survey reporting and fieldwork.
Several roles with AWC in the Kimberley.
Favourite animal protected by AWC
I don’t do favourites… but Numbats and Monjons are pretty cool…. and some of the reptiles we’ve only seen a few times but know are there!
Favourite place on an AWC sanctuary
Mornington: all the gorges.
Charnley-Artesian: North of Synnot Range and Donkey Pools.
Yampi: any of the bits I’ve seen.
Yookamurra: inside “the fence” but also the Mallee fowl mound and its owners I staked out for 2hrs.
Scotia: maybe Playa Lake
Top three animals you would like to see (or have seen) in the wild
I’ve seen a Whaleshark and a Manta ray!!
I’ve seen Numbats!!
Would like to see:
Rare or difficult to see things
If you could visit any three places on the planet
The rest of Africa that I haven’t done yet.
Any active volcano
Why is this limited to 3?
Other interesting stuff
Participated in radio tracking the maneless lions of Tsavo (Kenya)….so much fun!!
Oh I have plenty of stories… you should ask me sometime!
