Feral herbivore control at Mt Gibson
The 7,800 hectare feral-free area is free of all feral herbivores – all goats and rabbits will be eradicated and permanently excluded.
Across the rest of Mt Gibson, feral goats and rabbits are the only feral herbivores. Goats now occur only at low densities, after a dedicated control program by AWC involving shooting and trapping, combined with a reduction in artificial watering points. The few goats that still occur on (invade) Mt Gibson will be removed through an ongoing program of trapping, mustering and shooting.
Rabbit control includes opportunistic shooting, baiting and ripping of warrens.
