What did you do before AWC?
Prior to joining AWC in 2013, I worked as a Senior Research Fellow in academia. My main interests were the movements of waterfowl and the ecology of avian influenza (bird flu). Before undertaking a PhD in 1996 I worked in Africa (Somalia) and the Middle East (UAE) as an ecologist and spent several years working for the Department of Agriculture in Broken Hill.
Favourite animal protected by AWC
Grey falcon and all ducks.
Favourite place on an AWC sanctuary
Anywhere on Kalamurina or Newhaven.
Top three animals you would like to see (or have seen) in the wild
Gyrfalcon (seen), Emperor goose (seen) and Humpback whale (seen but hoping for better views).
If you could visit any three places on the planet
Torres del Paine (Chile), Etosha National Park (Namibia), The Kimberley before cane toads arrive, and Iceland (that is four places but I couldn't leave one out).
Other interesting stuff
Easily entertained by a glass of red wine or birdwatching or both! Can maintain and repair pre 1984 Ducati V-twin motorcycles.
