Feral cat and fox control at Buckaringa
Feral cats and foxes occur at high densities across the Flinders Ranges.
AWC implements fox control including baiting and shooting. Baiting is undertaken on a quarterly basis with bait take monitored.
5 foxes were shot in 2017 (unknown number of others baited).
Baiting is not typically an effective form of feral cat control. At Buckaringa, we shoot feral cats opportunistically and on regular spotlighting transects.
3 feral cats were shot in 2017
Importantly, AWC is also undertaking detailed research across our network of sanctuaries (for example, our work at Mornington and Scotia) to develop more effective, landscape-scale control of feral cats.
