The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is impacting the entire world and affecting every individual and many businesses and organisations, including Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC). In these challenging times, we are closely following advice from Australian medical authorities and implementing protocols to ensure we keep the AWC family – including our amazing staff, supporters, indigenous partners, volunteers and visitors – safe.
The safety of the entire AWC family is our paramount concern. With this in mind, and in keeping with Australian health and safety guidelines, we have made the difficult decision to close AWC sanctuaries to visitation to help reduce the risk of transmission.
The good news is that, with your support, and a few adjustments in accordance with these times, our dedicated team of scientists and land managers remains focused on our mission. AWC’s field ecologists are going full steam ahead, undertaking strategic research and biodiversity surveys. Our land managers are continuing to implement priority actions to protect Australia’s threatened wildlife from fire, feral animals and weeds. We also continue to support bushfire recovery efforts at places like Kangaroo Island, and in the Blue Mountains and northern New South Wales. We look forward to sharing our progress and inspiring stories with you.
AWC’s workforce is by nature a dispersed one. Now, our administrative and fundraising teams are operating remotely as well – but otherwise it’s business as usual. We are still contactable by phone, email and mail – and we love hearing from you. We recognise that, as a community, it is now more important than ever to stay connected with the AWC family – so please stay tuned. Even though we may not be able to meet in person, we will continue to connect with you through other communication channels and keep you updated with our work in the field.
Together, we’re rising to the challenge to keep the AWC family safe, stay connected and at the same time protect Australia’s wildlife, which needs our help now more than ever.
Thank you for all your support. Please stay safe.
