Issue 46: Restoration and resilience

This year began with devastating floods and is concluding with an already significant wildfire season. Extreme events such as these are becoming more frequent and intense. By undertaking evidence-based conservation management and restoring biodiversity, Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is building more resilient ecosystems that have the vital capacity to adapt.

This edition of Wildlife Matters focuses on restoration and resilience. We look at quoll conservation across the country and learn how some populations of this fierce marsupial are making an assisted comeback. Long-term monitoring data from the Ecohealth Program – a cornerstone of AWC’s conservation approach – is helping us to disentangle factors driving changes in species’ abundance. This is a singular challenge in Australia’s boom-and-bust landscapes.
